Our first float trip

So, here we are on our first canoe trip. The kids LOVED it and I have to say, that we found it really fun too. They liked "fishing" off the side of the canoe. Don't tell them that mommy rigged their poles with no bait or hook. I didn't feel like getting a hook in my back or ear. It didn't matter really, they just love casting and reeling. We floated the Northfork of the White River here in Missouri and it was beautiful. If you don't count the mishaps getting home (long story but cost about 600 bucks!) we had a great family trip over the fourth of July.
Jeff has been very busy with the National Guard. We are very lucky that he is not deployed but, WOW, it seems like we see him less than when he was on active duty. Of course, we know it is because he is moving to a new job (the one he has been waiting for) and there for a while he was working two jobs with them during the move. Now it seems he is always attending one course or another in training for his new job. Jack really misses him when he's gone so we really treasure the time we all have together. If possible, we look forward to some more camping and floating this summer.....
I love this picture. Jack was just casting away and he almost looked like he needed hip-waders. Future fly fisherman?? We stopped here by the bluffs for our lunch and it was gorgeous.
Look close and you will see the poor caterpillar that Molly tortured for two full days. By the time she was done with it, and I had to force her to let it free, it had lost all it's fuzzy hair and looked like a worm. She was so proud of it that I didn't have the heart to take it away!
